QQI Anatomy & Physiology (D20001)

Certificate (1 Credit Component) awarded by QQI at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Purpose

The module is designed to equip learners with knowledge of the structure and function of the human body and an understanding of the interrelationship between the systems of the body.

Preferred Entry Level

Level 4 FETAC Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.

Who should complete this course?

People who wish to pursue a career and work in the fields of health, complementary therapy, nutrition and physical fitness. Or students who wish to study Anatomy & Physiology at Level 5

Progression

The module is mandatory for the Level 5 Certificate in Community and Health Services - Nursing Studies award. It may also be included as an elective vocational module on a range of FETAC awards.

General Aims

Learners who successfully complete this module will:

  1. Acquire knowledge of the structure and function of the human body.
  2. Recognise the human body as an entity.
  3. Understand the interrelationship between the systems of the body.

Specific learning outcomes

The course is grouped into the following 9 units.

  • Unit 1: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology
  • Unit 2: The Skeletal and Muscular Systems
  • Unit 3: The Circulatory and Lymphatic Systems
  • Unit 4: The Digestive System
  • Unit 5: The Respiratory System
  • Unit 6: The Nervous and Endocrine Systems
  • Unit 7: The Reproductive System
  • Unit 8: The Urinary System
  • Unit 9: The Skin

Student Requirements

All course notes are provided. Students required complete homework and assignments out of class (2-4hrs per week). Students are required to have access to a computer with Word Processing software and printer for submission of assignments and homework.

Portfolio of Assessment

Assessment is by examination and 2 assignments.

Examination (Theory)

Each candidate will complete a theory examination paper, which counts towards 60% of the total mark

Assignments

Each candidate will complete two assignments which counts towards 40% of the total mark

Grading

Pass 50 - 64%,
Merit 65 - 79%,
Distinction 80 - 100%

€480 (includes course material text books and examination fees)

The course is Part Time held on Tuesday from 5:30 - 8:30pm for 8 weeks with exams on the 10th week and will run subject to minimum student numbers.
